Bali Will Commence Its Tourism Tax Starting On February 14, 2024

IBX-Jakarta. On Valentine’s Day, as romance fills the air, Bali will introduce a new tourism tax. Starting February 14, an imposed fee will apply to all international visitors intending to travel to the island. The implementation of the International Tourism Law by the Bali Provincial government aims to protect the island’s natural beauty, preserving its traditions, customs, arts, and local wisdom. This initiative, highlighting Bali’s commitment to sustainable tourism, seeks to safeguard and conserve its unique artistic heritage.

Several visa categories will be exempt from this fee. This includes diplomatic, official, conveyance crew, golden and student visa holders, family unification visas, and specific non-tourist visas. Additionally, holders of KITAS (Residence Permit Card for short-term stay) and KITAP (permit card for permanent stay) are also exempted. Tourists are urged to apply for the visa online before their arrival, using the dedicated Love Bali website.

Wonderful Indonesia, representing Indonesia’s essence, outlines three main areas where tourism levy funds will be allocated:

  • “Preserve Heritage” tops the list, focusing on protecting Balinese customs, traditions, arts, and local wisdom, ensuring the sustainability of the island’s cultural aspects.
  • The second priority is “Nurture Nature,” emphasizing tourists’ contribution to preserving Balinese culture and the natural environment, enhancing Bali as a beautiful destination.
  • Lastly, funds will be allocated to evaluate experiences, aiming to improve tourism management in Bali, ensuring enjoyable and safe travel experiences on the island.
